1 Scope

China's national product standard for the aluminium composite panel used for ordinary decoration rather than for curtain walling. It specifies the terminology and definitions, the classification, the specifications and marking, the inspection methods, the inspection rules, and the marks, packaging, transport, storage and accompanying documents, and it applies to aluminium-plastic composite panels for indoor and outdoor decoration other than building curtain walls. The exclusion in the scope is the whole point of having a separate standard. The same product with a thicker aluminium skin and a controlled core goes on the outside of a tall building under GB/T 17748, where it is a structural cladding element that has to resist wind load, accommodate movement and behave acceptably in a fire. Here the panel is a facing: shop fronts, signage, interior linings, partitions, fascias and column casings, where it is fixed to a substrate, carries no load and spans nothing. Because the duty is lighter, the panel is made lighter - thinner skins, and often a different core - and it costs a fraction of the curtain wall product. That distinction is precisely where the danger lies, and it is why the two standards keep separate classifications and separate marking requirements: a decorative panel installed as curtain wall cladding is both structurally inadequate and, where the core is unmodified polyethylene, a fire risk of the kind that has destroyed buildings. So this standard sets the classification and the designation that identify what the panel is, the aluminium thickness and the core, the peel strength between skin and core, the dimensional tolerances and flatness, the coating performance, and the marking that must accompany it. Issued on 13 October 2016 and in force since 1 September 2017, it replaces GB/T 22412-2008.

This standard specifies the terminology and definition, classification, specifications and marking of ordinary decorative aluminum-plastic composite panels (hereinafter referred to as decorative panels).
