Scope
GB/T 21394-2008 is the English-translated version of 道路交通信息服务 信息分类与编码.
GB/T 21394-2008 fixes the classification principles and method, the coding method and the code table for the information used in road traffic information services and directly related to road traffic.
Clause 1 states that it applies to intelligent transport systems and to the related fields of information processing and information exchange. Clause 3 defines the service itself as information on road traffic conditions, travel and related events provided to travellers before a trip.
Clause 4 gives the classification principles: information is grouped by business attribute or characteristic with administrative needs taken into account, a line classification method is used, and compatibility is required with the harmonized and national classification and coding standards already published.
Clause 5 sets the coding rules, under which each object carries exactly one code and each code stands for one object, codes are numeric, spare positions are left so that new information services can be added later, and the code consists of two two-digit segments separated by a space, the first for the information category and the second for the subcategory.
Clause 6 then gives the code table: Table 1 holds the two-digit category codes for road condition information, road traffic information, parking information, event information, environmental information and other information.
The standard was proposed by the Ministry of Transport and is centrally managed by the national technical committee for intelligent transport system standardization (SAC/TC 268), and clause 2 cites GB/T 20134 on the collection of road traffic event information. It was issued on February 3, 2008 and has applied since August 1, 2008.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the traffic information service directly and road traffic-related classification principles and methods, coding method and code table information.
This standard applies to the intelligent traffic system and its information processing and information exchange related fields.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this standard.
