Scope
GB/T 18888-2022 is the English-translated version of 亚麻棉.
GB/T 18888-2022 is the Chinese national standard for cottonized flax, the flax fibre obtained by deep processing of second-cut flax and other flax fibres so that it can be spun directly.
It gives the terms and definitions, sets the technical requirements collected in Table 1, and describes the test methods, the inspection rules and the rules for marking, packaging, transport and storage.
It adds breaking strength to the requirements and carries two annexes with test methods of its own, one for average length, short fibre ratio and over-length fibre ratio, the other for linear density.
It cites GB/T 3291.1, GB/T 5707, GB/T 6529, GB/T 8170, GB/T 9995 and GB/T 18147.5, and is used for the quality grading of cottonized flax. It replaces GB/T 18888-2002, was issued on 14 October 2022 and has applied since 1 May 2023.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" drafted.
This document replaces GB/T 18888-2002 "Linen Cotton". Compared with GB/T 18888-2002, except for structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:
a) Deleted product classification (see Chapter 4 of the 2002 edition);
b) Changed the technical requirements index (see Table 1, Table 1 of the 2002 edition), and changed the revision requirements for moisture regain (see Table 1, of the 2002 edition) 5.2);
c) increased breaking strength (see 5.6);
d) Change the sampling requirements (see 6.1, 7.1 of the 2002 edition);
e) The acceptance requirements for the net weight of the package are deleted (see 7.4 of the 2002 edition);
f) Changed the requirements for marking, packaging, transportation and storage (see Chapter 7, Chapter 8 of the 2002 edition);
g) The test methods for average length, short fiber rate and super-long fiber rate are added (see Appendix A);
h) The test method for linear density (splitting degree) has been added (see Appendix B).
1 Scope
This document defines the terms and definitions of linen cotton, specifies the technical requirements for linen cotton, describes the corresponding test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation and storage.
This document applies to the quality grading of linen cotton.
2 Normative references
The contents of the following documents constitute essential provisions of this document through normative references in the text. Among them, dated citations documents, only the version corresponding to that date applies to this document; for undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this document.

3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 3291.1, GB/T 5707 and the following apply to this document.
3.1 Cottonized flax
The second coarse flax and other flax fibers (such as combed noil and combed noil) are directly used for spinning flax fibers after deep processing.
Note: The second coarse flax is the flax short fibers that fall during the process of beating into hemp.
3.2 Short cottonized flax
After processing, it is flax fiber with an average length of less than 40mm in a loose state.
3.3 Long cottonized flax
After processing, it is flax fiber with an average length between 40mm and 55mm.
3.4 Short fiber ratio
The percentage of flax fibers with a length of 16 mm and below in the total mass.
4 Requirements
The technical requirements of linen cotton are shown in Table 1.
