1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 18147 specifies the test method for the residual gum content of hemp fiber.
This part applies to raw white degummed hemp, raw white hemp sliver, raw white hemp noil.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions established in GB/T 18146.1, as well as the following terms and definitions, apply to this Part of GB/T 18147.
3.1 Residual gum content
The percentage of the dry mass of residual gum in degreased hemp fiber as relative to the dry mass of the degreased hemp fiber.
4 Principle
Based on the differing reactions of various constituents of hemp fiber to different chemical reagents, pectin, hemicellulose, cellulose are successively dissolved, leaving lignin as the residue, to determine the residual gum content.
5 Apparatus and reagents
5.1 Apparatus and tools
a) Soxhlet extractor;
b) Constant-temperature water bath. Temperature control deviation ±1 °C;
c) Drying oven. Temperature control range 50 °C ~ 150 °C, temperature control deviation ±1 °C;
d) Adjustable electric heating jacket. 500 mL, 300 W;
e) Vacuum pump. 30 L/min;
f) Balance. Readability 0.01 g, 0.1 mg;
g) Specimen sieve. 120 mesh.
5.2 Glassware
a) Round-bottom flask. 500 mL;
b) Bulb condenser. 250 mL;
c) Weighing bottle. phi 40 mm × 70 mm;
d) Desiccator. phi 180 mm, phi 150 mm;
e) Graduated cylinder. 250 mL;
f) Glass sintered crucible. No.2-2;
g) Suction filtration flask. 500 mL.
