This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1: Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting.
This document is Part 5 of GB/T 17889 "Ladders". GB/T 17889 has published the following parts.
— Part 1: Terminology, type and functional dimensions;
— Part 2: Requirements, tests and marking;
— Part 3: Information for use;
— Part 4: Hinged ladders;
— Part 5: Telescopic ladders;
— Part 6: Movable platform ladders.
This document replaces GB/T 17889.5-2019 "Ladders Part 5: Telescopic ladders". This document is consistent with GB/T 17889.5-2019.
In addition to structural adjustments and editorial modifications, the main technical changes are as follows.
— Changed the scope of application of the document (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2019 edition);
— Changed the terms and definitions of crossbar stabilizer (see 3.11, 3.13 of the 2019 edition);
— Changed the dimensional requirements for the crossbar type stabilizing bar (see 4.4, 4.3 of the 2019 edition);
— Changed the requirements for telescopic ladders (see Chapter 5, Chapter 5 of the 2019 edition);

Introduction
Ladder is a commonly used safety facility for climbing. GB/T 17889 aims to improve the quality and safety level of ladder-related products and ensure User safety is planned to consist of 7 parts.
— Part 1: Terminology, types and functional dimensions. The purpose is to coordinate the standards related to ladders and give the commonly used terms, types and functional dimensions of ladders.
The functional dimensions that affect the quality and safety level of the ladder, as well as the design and testing required.
— Part 2: Requirements, tests and marking. The purpose is to ensure the safety level of ladders and to identify factors that affect the quality and safety level of ladders.
The requirements for elements are specified and corresponding test methods are given.
— Part 3: Usage information. The purpose is to ensure that users can use the ladder correctly according to the signs and instructions and to The requirements for labels that serve as warnings during the use of the product, as well as the information and expression methods that need to be given in the instructions.

1 Scope
This document specifies the functional dimensions, requirements and test methods for telescopic ladders.
This document applies to telescopic ladders with a length not exceeding 5m when fully extended.
This document does not apply to extension ladders.

3.1 Telescopic ladder
A ladder consisting of three or more treads/steps with a retractable ladder frame.
