Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This standard replaces GB/T 16448-1996, Principles for naming tobacco cultivars. Compared with GB/T 16448-1996, the main technical changes are as follows:

- the normative references have been deleted (see Clause 2 of the 1996 edition);

- the terms and definitions have been modified (see Clause 2; Clause 3 of the 1996 edition);

- in the composition of the cultivar name, the root code indicating the cultivation type of rustica tobacco has been changed from "N" to "R", so that all codes are uniformly the first letter of the English name; the English codes of the affixes indicating the breeding region have been specified to avoid duplication; and the naming of tobacco male sterile line cultivars, the method of naming cultivars introduced from abroad and the botanical classification corresponding to each cultivar type have been added (see Clause 4; Clause 5 of the 1996 edition);

- "Publication and priority of cultivar names" has been deleted (see Clause 6 of the 1996 edition);

- "Registration symbols of cultivar names" has been modified (see Clause 5; Clause 5 of the 1996 edition);

- "Examples of tobacco cultivar naming" has been deleted (see Clause 8 of the 1996 edition).
