Scope
GB/T 1621-2023 is the English-translated version of 工业氯化铁.
GB/T 1621-2023 sets the requirements for industrial ferric chloride. It gives the molecular formula and relative molecular mass of anhydrous ferric chloride and of ferric chloride hexahydrate, the classification of the product, and the appearance and index requirements, including those added for the hexahydrate.
It sets out the test methods, among them the determination of free acid calculated as HCl and of sulfate, cadmium, arsenic, lead, mercury, chromium and zinc contents, and it covers the inspection rules with type inspection, the signs, labels and accompanying documents, and the packaging, transport and storage.
The document warns that industrial ferric chloride is a Category 8 corrosive substance under GB 12268-2012. It replaces GB/T 1621-2008, was issued on 7 September 2023 and has applied since 1 April 2024.

Foreword
This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 1621-2008 "Industrial Ferric Chloride". Compared with GB/T 1621-2008, except for structural adjustments and editorial changes, in addition, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) Changed the "scope" (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2008 edition);
b) Changed "Molecular formula and relative molecular mass" (see Chapter 4, Chapter 3 of the 2008 edition);
c) "Classification" has been changed (see Chapter 5, Chapter 4 of the 2008 edition);
d) Added the appearance and index requirements for ferric chloride hexahydrate in the "Requirements" (see Chapter 6);
e) Changed the index requirements for industrial ferric chloride (see 6.2, 5.2 of the 2008 edition);
f) The determination method of free acid (calculated as HCl) content has been changed (see 7.6, 6.7 of the 2008 edition);
g) Added methods for determination of sulfate (calculated as SO4), cadmium, arsenic, lead, mercury, chromium and zinc content (see 7.8, 7.9, 7.10, 7.11, 7.12, 7.13, 7.14);
h) Added type inspection (see 8.1);
i) Product packaging, transportation, and storage conditions have been changed (see Chapter 10, Chapter 9 of the 2008 edition).
1 Scope
