Scope
GB/T 15663.3-2008 is the English-translated version of 煤矿科技术语 第3部分：地下开采.
GB/T 15663.3-2008 is the Chinese national terminology standard for underground coal mining, giving each term in Chinese with its English equivalents and a definition, together with admitted and deprecated synonyms.
It specifies terms for minefield development (mine capacity and life, mining levels and horizons, shaft, adit and combined development, shaft bottoms and underground chambers, main roadways, return airways, districts, raises and dips, advancing and retreating mining), coal mining methods (coal faces, longwall and shortwall mining and their variants), district support and mine surface facilities.
It applies to all documents, standards, regulations, codes, books, textbooks and manuals relating to underground mining.
It is Part 3 of the GB/T 15663 series and replaces GB/T 15663.3-1995: some definitions have been revised, the former clauses on hydraulic coal mining and backfill mining have been deleted with part of their content moved into the clause on coal mining methods, and a new clause on district support has been added.
Issued on 29 July 2008, in force since 1 May 2009. Classification: ICS 01.040.73, CCS D04. The document runs to 33 pages, delivered complete in English translation.

Foreword
GB/T 15663, Terms relating to coal mining, is divided into the following parts:
- Part 1: Coal geology and exploration;
- Part 2: Shaft and roadway engineering;
- Part 3: Underground mining;
- Part 4: Surface mining;
- Part 5: Hoisting and transport;
- Part 6: Mine surveying;
- Part 7: Mining subsidence and special coal mining;
- Part 8: Coal mine safety;
- Part 10: Mining machinery;
- Part 11: Coal mine electrical engineering.
This part is Part 3 of GB/T 15663.
This part replaces GB/T 15663.3-1995, Terms relating to coal mining - Underground mining.
Compared with GB/T 15663.3-1995, the main changes in this part are as follows:
- the definitions of some terms have been modified;
- the clauses "4 Hydraulic coal mining" and "5 Backfill mining" of GB/T 15663.3-1995 have been deleted, and part of their content has been moved into "3 Coal mining methods";
- the corresponding clauses have been adjusted and supplemented, and a new clause "4 District support" has been added.
This part was proposed by the China National Coal Association.
This part is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee on Coal of Standardization Administration of China.
The drafting of this part was led by the Mining Design Research Branch of China Coal Research Institute, with the participation of the Testing Research Branch of China Coal Research Institute and the Nanjing Design Institute of China Coal International Engineering Group.
Main drafters of this part: Wang Guofa, Zhang Yinliang, Liu Junfeng, Fu Jingyu, Chen Yuanyan.
