Scope
GB 5135.8-2003 is the English-translated version of 自动喷水灭火系统 第8部分: 加速器.
GB 5135.8-2003 is Part 8 of the Chinese national standard series on automatic sprinkler systems and specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, instructions for use, packaging, transport and storage of accelerators, the quick-opening devices that release the air from a dry pipe alarm valve to shorten its opening time.
It applies to accelerators used with dry pipe alarm valves and dry/wet alarm valves.
The requirements cover appearance, a rated working pressure of at least 1.2 MPa, corrosion-resistant materials, components and elastomeric sealing elements, leakage and deformation at twice the rated working pressure for 5 min, an operating time not exceeding 30 s, air static pressure of 0.7 MPa, an equalisation time not exceeding 3 min, anti-flooding devices and an 800 °C fire resistance test; Clause 5 gives the matching test methods and Clause 6 the factory and type inspection, the sampling scheme (Figure 1) and the judgement rules.
Clauses 4 and 6 are mandatory and the rest is recommended. It was developed from GA 80-1994, which it repeals, adding requirements on packaging, transport and storage.

This part was developed on the basis of GA 80-1994, Automatic sprinkler system - Performance requirements and test methods for accelerators.
Compared with GA 80-1994, the main difference of this part is as follows:
- requirements on product packaging, transport and storage have been added.
GA 80-1994 is repealed from the date of implementation of this part.
This part was proposed by the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China.
This part is under the jurisdiction of Sub-committee 2 of the National Technical Committee for Fire Protection Standardization.
