Scope

GB 5135.2-2003 is the English-translated version of 自动喷水灭火系统 第2部分: 湿式报警阀、延迟器、水力警铃.

GB 5135.2-2003 is Part 2 of the Chinese national standard series on automatic sprinkler systems and specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and marking, packaging, transport and storage of wet alarm valves, retard chambers and water motor alarms.

Its requirements cover marking, rated working pressures of 1.2 MPa and 1.6 MPa, nominal diameters from 50 mm to 300 mm, corrosion-resistant materials, drain outlets, strainers and clapper clearances, body strength at 4 times the rated working pressure (at least 4.8 MPa), leakage and deformation, hydraulic friction loss not above 0.04 MPa at 4.5 m/s, alarm function and alarm flow, an alarm delay of 5 s to 90 s with a retard chamber, a pressure ratio not above 1.16, water motor alarm sound levels of at least 85 dB(A) at 3.0 m, and an 800 °C fire resistance test; Clause 5 gives the corresponding test methods; normative Annex B covers the main clapper seal and informative Annex C the installation and use requirements.

Clauses 4 and 6 are mandatory and the rest are recommended. It replaces GB 797-1989, extending the pressure grades and diameter range and adding requirements on the alarm test line, clearances, butterfly-type valves, friction loss curves, pressure switches, water motor alarm water resistance, and marking, packaging, transport and storage.

It was issued on 8 October 2003 and has been in force since 1 May 2004. Classification: ICS 13.220.30, CCS C83. The document runs to 17 pages, delivered complete in English translation.

Foreword

This part was issued on 8 October 2003 by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China and took effect on 1 May 2004.

Clauses 4 and 6 of this part are mandatory; the rest are recommended.

GB 5135 Automatic sprinkler system is at present planned to consist of 15 parts:

- Part 1: Sprinklers

- Part 2: Wet alarm valves, retard chambers and water motor alarms

- Part 3: Water mist nozzles

- Part 4: Dry pipe valves

- Part 5: Deluge valves

- Part 6: General-purpose valves

- Part 7: Water flow indicators

- Part 8: Accelerators

- Part 9: Early suppression fast response (ESFR) sprinklers

- Part 10: Pressure switches

- Part 11: Grooved pipe couplings and fittings

- Part 12: Extended coverage sprinklers

- Part 13: Water curtain nozzles

- Part 14: Preaction devices

- Part 15: Residential sprinklers

- ...

This part is Part 2 of GB 5135. This revision mainly refers to ISO/WD 6182.2, Automatic sprinkler systems - Requirements and test methods for wet alarm valves (English edition of 2000).

This part replaces GB 797-1989, Performance requirements and test methods for wet alarm valves of automatic sprinkler systems.

Compared with GB 797-1989, the main changes in this part are as follows:

- some definitions have been modified;

- the requirements of the standard have been rewritten in greater detail;

- in Clause 4, the basic parameters extend the range of rated working pressure grades and of nominal diameters of wet alarm valves;

- in Clause 4, an alarm test line has been added;

- a requirement for the clearances of wet alarm valves has been added;

- the leakage and deformation performance has been completed, and requirements for butterfly-type wet alarm valves have been added;

- the connection dimensions have been completed;

- a requirement for the hydraulic friction loss curve has been added;

- the alarm function has been modified, and requirements for the pressure switch have been added;

- a requirement for the water resistance of the water motor alarm has been added;

- test methods corresponding to some of the requirements have been added;

- the main clapper seal has been moved to an annex;

- the inspection rules have been modified;

- requirements for marking, packaging, transport and storage have been added.

Annex A and Annex B of this part are normative; Annex C is informative.

This part was proposed by the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China.

This part is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee 2 of the National Technical Committee for Fire Protection Standardization (CSBTS/TC 113/SC 2).

Drafting organisations of this part: Tianjin Fire Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security; Fire Bureau of the Zhejiang Provincial Public Security Department.

Main drafters of this part: Yang Zhenming, Bai Diantao, Chuo Fengying, Chen Zemin, Yan Xiaolong, Chi Lifa.

The editions of the standard replaced by this part are:
