Scope

GB 5135.3-2003 is the English-translated version of 自动喷水灭火系统 第3部分: 水雾喷头.

GB 5135.3-2003 is Part 3 of the Chinese national standard series on automatic sprinkler systems and specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and marking, packaging, transport and storage of water mist nozzles, nozzles that break water up into droplets below 1 mm in a designed spray pattern.

Nozzles are classified as type A and type B centrifugal and type C impact nozzles, with common spray angles of 45°, 60°, 90°, 120° and 150°, and are designated in the form ZSTW A40/120.

The requirements cover appearance, marking and GB/T 7306 threads, a flow coefficient within ±5% of nominal, spray angle tolerances of ±5° or ±10°, water distribution at the 0.35 MPa rated working pressure, a DV0.90 droplet diameter below 1.000 mm, effective range and spray height within ±10% of published values, strength, ammonia stress, sulfur dioxide and salt spray corrosion, low and high temperature, vibration and mechanical impact, plus additional GB 5135.1-2003 requirements for closed nozzles; the test methods include flow coefficient measurement at 0.15 MPa to 0.75 MPa with K = Q/sqrt(10P) and spray angle measurement on a 500 mm radius collector, followed by inspection rules and an informative annex on spray patterns.

Clauses 5 and 7 are mandatory and the rest are recommended; it was developed from GA 33-1992, which is abolished from its implementation date, adding requirements on marking, nozzle strength, ammonia stress corrosion, vibration, impact and closed nozzles.

It was issued on 8 October 2003 and has been in force since 1 May 2004. Classification: ICS 13.220.30, CCS C83. The document runs to 15 pages, delivered complete in English translation.

Clauses 5 and 7 of this part are mandatory; the rest are recommended.

GB 5135 Automatic sprinkler system is at present planned to consist of 15 parts:

- Part 1: Sprinklers;

- Part 2: Wet alarm valves, retard chambers and water motor alarms;

- Part 3: Water mist nozzles;

- Part 4: Dry pipe valves;

- Part 5: Deluge valves;

- Part 6: General-purpose valves;

- Part 7: Water flow indicators;

- Part 8: Accelerators;

- Part 9: Early suppression fast response (ESFR) sprinklers;

- Part 10: Pressure switches;

- Part 11: Grooved pipe couplings and fittings;

- Part 12: Extended coverage sprinklers;

- Part 13: Water curtain nozzles;

- Part 14: Preaction devices;

- Part 15: Residential sprinklers;

- ...

This part is Part 3 of GB 5135.

This part was developed on the basis of GA 33-1992, Automatic sprinkler systems - Performance requirements and test methods for water mist nozzles.

Compared with GA 33-1992, the main changes in this part are as follows:

- the content of the water mist nozzle model designation has been adjusted (3.5 of the 1992 edition; 4.2 of this edition);

- a requirement for appearance, marking and connection threads has been added (5.1 of this edition);

- the requirements for flow characteristics have been adjusted (4.1 of the 1992 edition; 5.2 of this edition);

- the requirements for droplet size have been adjusted (4.4 of the 1992 edition; 5.5 of this edition);

- a requirement for downward spraying of water mist nozzles has been added to the spray performance requirements (4.3 of the 1992 edition; 5.6 of this edition);

- a requirement for nozzle strength has been added (5.7 of this edition);

- a requirement for ammonia stress corrosion has been added (5.8 of this edition);

- requirements for vibration resistance and mechanical impact resistance have been added (5.13 and 5.14 of this edition);

- corresponding requirements for closed water mist nozzles have been added (5.15 of this edition).

GA 33-1992 is abolished from the date of implementation of this part.

This part was proposed by the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China.

This part is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee 2 of the National Technical Committee for Fire Protection Standardization.
