Scope
GB 4452-2011 is the English-translated version of 室外消火栓.
GB 4452-2011 is the Chinese national standard for outdoor fire hydrants installed on fire water supply pipelines, and for their accessories; its Clauses 5, 7 and 8 are mandatory.
It defines post, flush, crashworthy, pressure reducing-stabilizing and folding hydrants, classifies hydrants by installation, inlet connection (flanged or spigot-and-socket), use, nominal diameter (100 mm or 150 mm) and nominal pressure (1.0 MPa or 1.6 MPa), and sets the model designation.
The technical requirements cover minimum flow area, materials, appearance, threads, opening height, flange and socket connection dimensions, sealing at nominal pressure, hydrostatic strength at 1.5 times nominal pressure, the automatic drain device, fire couplings, crash resistance, pressure regulation and stabilization, and a folding deployment time of at most 30 s; test methods, inspection rules, marking and packaging follow, with annexes on hydrant couplings and wrenches.
It replaces GB 4452-1996 and GB 4453-1984, adding the crashworthy, pressure regulating, pressure reducing-stabilizing, folding and foam types and incorporating the coupling requirements of GB 4453.

Clauses 5, 7 and 8 of this standard are mandatory; the remainder is recommended.
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB 4452-1996 General technical specification for outdoor fire hydrants and GB 4453-1984 Fire hydrant couplings. Compared with GB 4452-1996, apart from editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:
- terms relating to fire hydrants have been added (see Clause 3 of this edition);
- structural requirements for fire hydrants have been added (see 5.1 of this edition);
- foam-type fire hydrants have been added (see 5.2.5 of this edition);
- the performance of the residual water drain device has been modified (see 5.9 of this edition; 4.8 of the 1996 edition);
- crashworthy post fire hydrants have been added (see 5.11 of this edition);
- pressure regulating fire hydrants have been added (see 5.12 of this edition);
- pressure reducing-stabilizing fire hydrants have been added (see 5.13 of this edition);
- folding fire hydrants have been added (see 5.14 of this edition);
- the inspection rules have been modified (see Clause 7 of this edition; Clause 6 of the 1996 edition);
- the requirements of GB 4453 for fire hydrant couplings have been incorporated (see Annex A of this edition);
- requirements for fire hydrant wrenches have been added (see Annex B of this edition).
This standard was proposed by the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China.
This standard is under the jurisdiction of the Fire Equipment and Fittings Subcommittee of the National Technical Committee for Fire Protection Standardization (SAC/TC 113/SC 5).
