Foreword

This document has been drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020 "Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of standardizing documents".

This document replaces GB 23238-2009 "Boar fresh semen". Compared with GB 23238-2009, apart from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

- the definitions of "raw semen" and "sperm abnormality rate" have been deleted (see 3.1 and 3.5 of the 2009 edition);

- the definitions of "boar", "semen concentration", "abnormal sperm", "pooled semen", "batch" and "shelf life" have been added (see 3.1, 3.3, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8 and 3.9);

- the definitions of "liquid semen", "sperm motility" and "number of progressively motile sperm" have been changed (see 3.2, 3.4 and 3.5; 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 of the 2009 edition);

- the requirement for "raw semen" has been deleted (see 4.1 of the 2009 edition);

- the technical requirements for "appearance" (see 4.2.1 of the 2009 edition) and "period of validity" (see 4.2.6 of the 2009 edition) have been deleted;

- content on deep insemination has been added (see Clause 4);

- the technical requirements for "dose" and "number of progressively motile sperm" have been changed (see Clause 4; 4.2 of the 2009 edition);

- the "sampling method" has been changed (see 5.1; 5.1 and 5.2 of the 2009 edition);

- the "inspection categories" (see 7.1; 6.2 of the 2009 edition) and the "rules for judgement" (see 7.2; Clause 7 of the 2009 edition) have been changed;

- a description of the circumstances requiring "type inspection" has been added (see 7.1.2);

- the "labels" have been changed (see 8.1; 8.1 of the 2009 edition);

- a clause on "accompanying documents" has been added (see 8.2);

- the clauses on "packaging", "storage" and "transport" have been changed (see 9.1, 9.2 and 9.3; 8.2, 8.3 and 8.4 of the 2009 edition);

- content on "shelf life" has been added (see 9.4);

- requirements for the "disposal of nonconforming products" have been added (see Clause 10);

- the content on "sampling" has been deleted (see A.1 of the 2009 edition);

- the test methods for "dose" (see A.1; A.2 of the 2009 edition), "sperm motility" (see A.2; A.3 of the 2009 edition) and "number of progressively motile sperm" (see A.3; A.4 of the 2009 edition) have been changed;

- the staining time of the Giemsa staining method for the "sperm abnormality rate" has been changed [see A.4.1.3 b); A.5.3 c) of the 2009 edition];

- content on the "eosin-nigrosin rapid staining method" has been added (see A.4.2);

- the content on the "supervisory inspection procedure for boar liquid semen" has been deleted (see Annex B of the 2009 edition);

- content on the "calibration method for the determination of semen concentration with a sperm quality analyser" has been added (see Annex B).
