Foreword

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part

1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents" Drafting. This document replaces GB 23238-2009 "Sperm of Breeding Pigs at Room Temperature". Compared with GB 23238-2009, except for structural adjustments and editorial changes In addition, the main technical changes are as follows:

--- Deleted the definition of "original semen" and "sperm deformity rate" (see 3.1,

3.5 in.2009 edition);

---Added the definitions of "breeding pig", "sperm density", "abnormal sperm", "mixed semen", "batch" and "shelf life" (see 3.1, 3.3, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8, 3.9);

---Changed the definitions of "normal temperature semen", "sperm motility" and "forward motility sperm count" (see 3.2, 3.4, 3.5, 3.2,.2009 version 3.3, 3.4);

--- Deleted the "original semen" requirement (see

4.1 in the.2009 edition);

--- Deleted the "appearance" (see

4.2.1 of the.2009 edition) and the technical requirements of "validity" (see

1 Scope

GB 23238-2021 is the Chinese national standard on boar liquid semen, in the field of agriculture. It carries no /T suffix, which in the Chinese system means compliance is mandatory: a product or a practice within its scope has to meet it to be lawfully made, sold or carried out in China. It was issued on 30 April 2021 by the State Administration for Market Regulation; Standardization Administration of China, and has been in force since 1 May 2022. Classification: ICS 65.020.30, CCS B43. This document specifies the quality and technical requirements, sampling, test methods, inspection rules, labels and accompanying documents, packaging, and storage of boar semen at room temperature. Storage, transportation, shelf life, and disposal of substandard products. This document applies to commercial boar semen products at room temperature.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Boar Boars whose body appearance and performance quality meet the requirements of this breed standard and have breeding value.

Note. It comes from a breeding farm or boar station with a "breeding livestock and poultry production and operation license" and "animal epidemic prevention certificate", or a qualified pig performance testing station.

3.2 Room temperature semen liquidsemen The collected boar semen is the semen that has been diluted but not frozen at room temperature (16°C-18°C).

3.3 Semenconcentration The number of sperm contained in each milliliter of semen.

3.4 Sperm motility The degree of forward movement sperm activity in semen.

Note. When the semen temperature is around 37°C, it is expressed as the percentage of the number of forward-moving sperm in the semen to the total number of sperm.

3.5 Numberofprogressivelymotilesperm The total number of forward-moving sperm in each dose of semen.

3.6 Abnormal sperm Sperm with abnormal morphology.
