GB 21551.5-2010 is the English-translated version of 家用和类似用途电器的抗菌、除菌、净化功能 洗衣机的特殊要求.
GB 21551.5-2010 is Part 5 of the GB 21551 series and gives the particular requirements for fully automatic household and similar electric washing machines declared to have an antibacterial or bacteria elimination function; ordinary single-tub and twin-tub machines are excluded.
It is used together with GB 21551.1-2008, whose clauses it declares applicable, replaces, modifies or supplements, and defines ozone, silver ion and high temperature (washing temperature of 80 °C or more) bacteria elimination and the bacteria elimination rate.
A washing machine must achieve a bacteria elimination rate of at least 96.0% when new and at least 86.0% after continuous operation with rated load for 2 000 programmes (pulsator and agitator machines) or 2 300 h (drum machines), with proportional adjustment where the maker declares other values.
Normative Annex AA sets out the test with Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli on 100 mm × 100 mm cotton swatches stitched into the load, comparing the residual viable count of a control wash and of a wash with the bacteria elimination function, three tests per unit; marking must follow GB 5296.2 and the instructions must state the function type, the rate achieved, its decline over service life and the parts to be replaced or cleaned.
