Scope
GB 14891.3-1997 is the English-translated version of 辐照干果果脯类卫生标准.
GB 14891.3-1997 is the Chinese mandatory hygienic standard for irradiated dried nuts and preserved fruits, part of the GB 14891 series on irradiated foods.
It specifies the technical requirements and test methods for peanut kernels, dried longan, lotus seeds, walnuts, apricot kernels, red dates, preserved peaches, apricots and hawthorn and other candied fruits irradiated with gamma-rays or electron beams to control insects, reduce losses and extend storage life.
The absorbed dose is set at 0.4 kGy to 1.0 kGy depending on the variety (Co-60 or Cs-137 gamma-rays, or electron beams below 10 MeV) with a dose uniformity ratio of not more than 2; the standard fixes sensory requirements, limits for lead, arsenic, mercury, BHC, DDT and aflatoxin B1 in peanut kernels, microbiological limits for total bacterial count, coliforms and pathogens, freedom from live insects and eggs, packaging and labelling, and test methods under GB 4789 and GB 5009.
It replaces GB 14891.3-94, GB 14891.4-94 and ZB C53 002-84, merging the earlier single-product standards into one standard for the food class. Issued on 1 June 1997, in force since 1 January 1998.
Classification: ICS 67.180.10, CCS C 53. The document runs to 4 pages, delivered complete in English translation.

Foreword
Irradiated dried nuts and preserved fruits are dried nuts and preserved fruits that have been irradiated with gamma-rays or electron beams for the purposes of controlling insect infestation, reducing losses and extending the storage period.
International recommendations exist, but there was as yet no domestic standard. From the date of its implementation this standard replaces GB 14891.3-94, GB 14891.4-94 and ZB C53 002-84.
This standard has been put forward on the basis of relevant domestic and foreign data and of the experimental results obtained by Qingdao Medical College, the Shandong Provincial Health and Anti-Epidemic Station and other units.
This standard was proposed by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China.
This standard is under the technical responsibility of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Hygiene of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine.
This standard was drafted by Qingdao Medical College, the Shandong Provincial Health and Anti-Epidemic Station and the Beijing Municipal Health and Anti-Epidemic Station.
Main drafters of this standard: Li Juesheng, Han Chi, Zhang Li, Zhang Zheng, Zhang Xiuzhen.
This standard is interpreted by the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, the technical focal unit entrusted by the Ministry of Health.
Approved by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China on 1997-06-16; implemented on 1998-01-01.
Classification: ICS 67.180.10, CCS C 53.
