Scope
GB 1259-2007 is the English-translated version of 工作基准试剂 重铬酸钾.
GB 1259-2007 specifies the properties, specifications, tests, inspection rules, and packaging and marking of the working chemical potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7, relative molecular mass 294.18), and applies to its inspection when used as a reference reagent in titrimetric analysis.
The product must have a K2Cr2O7 content of 99.95% to 100.05% and meet limits for water-insoluble matter (<= 0.003%), chloride (<= 0.001%), sulfate (<= 0.003%), sodium (<= 0.01%), calcium (<= 0.001%) and iron (<= 0.001%).
Content is determined by weighing potentiometric titration with sodium thiosulfate against a reference potassium dichromate in accordance with GB 10737; sodium is determined by flame atomic absorption to GB/T 9723-1988, and the other impurities by gravimetric, turbidimetric or colorimetric methods.
The product is labelled as an oxidizer to GB 15258. It replaces GB 1259-1989, renaming the standard, modifying the content determination and moving water-insoluble matter and sulfate to the general reagent methods.

Clause 4, 5.2.1 and 5.2.2 of this standard are mandatory; the rest are recommended.
This standard replaces GB 1259-1989 "Working chemical (volumetric) - Potassium dichromate". Compared with GB 1259-1989, the main changes are as follows:
- the title of the standard has been changed to "Working chemical - Potassium dichromate";
- the method for the determination of content has been modified (4.1 of the 1989 edition; 5.2 of this edition);
- water-insoluble matter and sulfate are now determined by the general methods for chemical reagents (4.2.1 and 4.2.3 of the 1989 edition; 5.3 and 5.5 of this edition).
This standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association.
