Scope

GB 12525-1990 is the English-translated version of 铁路边界噪声限值及其测量方法.

GB 12525-1990 sets the limits for railway noise at the boundary alongside railway lines in urban areas, and the method for measuring it, for use in assessing that noise.

The boundary is defined as the line 30 m from the centre line of the outermost track, and the limit is an equivalent sound level Leq of 70 dB(A) both by day and by night, with the day and night periods fixed by the local people's government.

Measurements are taken 1.2 m above the ground and at least 1 m from reflecting surfaces with a Type II or better integrating sound level meter to GB 3785 on fast response, in rain- and snow-free weather to GB 3222 with a windscreen and below wind force 4, reading the 1 h equivalent level in an hour of average traffic density for day and night.

Background noise should be at least 10 dB(A) below the railway noise, with corrections of -3 to -1 dB for smaller differences, and the standard lists the contents of the measurement report and gives a record form in a reference annex.
