Scope

GB 10494-2018 is the English-translated version of 铁路区间道口信号设备技术条件.

GB 10494-2018 is the Chinese national specification for the signalling equipment fitted at railway level crossings on open line.

It defines the crossing, the crossing signalling equipment, the crossing signal, the intercepting signal shown to the train, the automatic crossing bar, the train approach notification time and the approach section length, and fixes the environmental conditions the equipment must withstand, with indoor and outdoor limits of temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure and vibration.

It then sets the technical requirements: the four categories of crossing equipment, the rule that the road and the railway signals are never cleared at the same time, how the approach of a train is detected and announced, power supply, monitoring, control panels, crossing machinery rooms, software and electromagnetic compatibility.

It replaces GB 10494-1989, was issued on 13 July 2018 and has applied since 1 February 2019.
