It covers the evaluation of the chemical, physical, mechanical, biological and clinical performance of absorbable, partly absorbable and non-absorbable membranes, and states what the file has to record about that performance.
Such membranes serve to correct defects or abnormal morphology, to cover exposed teeth and dental implants, to prevent the epithelial migration caused by periodontal surgery, and to support bone before implant placement or prosthetic work.
Materials meant mainly for drug release, autografts and allografts, and products acting by pharmacological, immunological or metabolic means fall outside it. It cites GB/T 16886.1, GB/T 19633, YY/T 0316 and YY 0466. Issued on 30 December 2009, it has applied since 1 June 2011.
