JB/T 5897-2014 is the English-translated version of 防爆桥式起重机.

JB/T 5897-2014 is the recommended Chinese machinery industry standard for explosion-proof overhead traveling cranes, the bridge cranes installed where a flammable atmosphere may be present.

It gives the terms and definitions for these cranes, their classification and temperature class, their basic parameters and model designation, the technical requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules and the rules for marking, packaging, transport and storage.

The explosion protection side rests on GB 3836.1-2010 with GB 3836.14 and GB 3836.15 and on GB 12476.1 and GB 12476.2, while the crane side follows GB/T 3811-2008 and GB/T 14405-2011.

It supersedes JB/T 5897-2006. Issued on 6 May 2014, it has applied since 1 October 2014.
