JB/T 10043-2012 is the English-translated version of 分离涂附磨具磨料的方法.
JB/T 10043-2012 is the Chinese standard "Method for abrasive grain recovery from surface coated abrasives". Its scope clause reads: This standard specifies the reagents, equipment and instruments used when separating the abrasive grain from coated abrasives, and the preparation of the sample and the test procedure.
It applies to coated abrasives bonded with animal glue, with semi-resin, with full resin and with water-resistant bonds. It does not apply to abrasive paper made with glass grit as the abrasive.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the reagents, equipment and instruments used when separating the abrasive grain from coated abrasives, and the preparation of the sample and the test procedure.
It applies to coated abrasives bonded with animal glue, with semi-resin, with full resin and with water-resistant bonds.
It does not apply to abrasive paper made with glass grit as the abrasive.
2 Reagents
2.1 Water: distilled water or deionized water.
2.2 Hot water: distilled or deionized water above 50 °C.
2.3 Hydrochloric acid: relative density 1,19, chemically pure.
2.4 Sodium hydroxide: chemically pure.
2.5 Ethanol: chemically pure.
2.6 Sodium hydroxide solution (50 %): dissolve 50 g of sodium hydroxide in water and dilute to 100 mL.
2.7 Sodium hydroxide solution (10 %): dissolve 10 g of sodium hydroxide in water and dilute to 100 mL.
2.8 Sodium hydroxide-ethanol mixture: mix the 10 % sodium hydroxide solution with an equal volume of ethanol. This mixture shall be prepared when it is to be used.
3 Equipment and instruments
3.1 Electric drying oven.
3.2 Box-type resistance furnace.
3.3 Balance: graduation 0,1 g.
4 Preparation of the sample
4.1 A sample of coated abrasive of grit P220 or coarser shall be large enough to yield 100 g of abrasive; a sample of P240 or finer shall be large enough to yield 2,5 g of abrasive.
4.2 On a smooth sheet of paper, cut the sample of coated abrasive into pieces of about 25 mm × 25 mm and place them, together with any abrasive that has fallen off, in the sample bag ready for use.
5 Test procedure
5.1 Separation of the abrasive from the backing
5.1.1 Coated abrasives bonded with animal glue: place the prepared sample in a beaker and immerse it in hot water. When the abrasive comes away, stir thoroughly with a glass rod and scrape or brush gently, then rinse with hot water so that all the abrasive on the backing falls into the beaker; discard the backing.
5.1.2.1 Semi-resin and full-resin bonded coated abrasives - ignition: place the prepared sample in a porcelain evaporating dish; after it has carbonized completely, transfer it to a furnace at 600 °C ± 20 °C and ignite it until all the combustible matter has turned to white ash.
5.1.2.2 Alkali boiling: when the ignited sample has cooled to room temperature, place it in a beaker, immerse it in 50 % sodium hydroxide solution, heat and boil for 7 min to 10 min, stirring three or four times, then dilute with an equal volume of water.
