HG/T 5531.1-2019 is the first part of a recommended chemical industry series on the industrial salt obtained as a by-product of glyphosate manufacture, and it deals with sodium chloride. It describes the by-product sodium chloride arising in the production of glyphosate, including the glycine route, and sets the requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules and the rules for markings, packaging, storage and transport. It applies to sodium chloride recovered from glyphosate mother liquor by membrane treatment or by oxidation, concentration, crystallization and washing. The product is for industrial use only, in applications such as cement grinding aids, dyeing and printing auxiliaries, soda ash and chlor-alkali production, and it must not be used directly or indirectly as edible salt or in food, feed or aquatic products. It took effect on 1 January 2020.

This standard specifies the by-product sodium chloride in the production process of glyphosate (including glyphosate), and specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection rules and signs, packaging, storage and transportation of sodium chloride. This standard applies to sodium chloride produced by membrane treatment or oxidation, concentration, crystallization, washing and other processes of glyphosate (containing glyphosate) mother liquor. The products are only used for industrial purposes such as cement grinding aids, printing and dyeing aids, soda ash, chlor-alkali, etc., and shall not be directly or indirectly used as edible salt, and shall not be directly used in food, feed, aquatic products and other fields.
