HG/T 4997-2016 is the Chinese chemical industry standard that describes how to measure the force needed to pull a shoe eyelet out of the material it is fixed to. Two procedures are given: method A, in which a tapered rod pushes the eyelet out, and method B, in which the eyelet is drawn by a shoelace. The test is written for the eyelets of ordinary everyday footwear, while eyelets on special-purpose shoes and decorative eyelets may follow it as a reference. The document sits in class Y78 in the Chinese system and under 61.060 in the international one. It quotes GB/T 16825.1-2008. Issued on 11 July 2016, it has applied since 1 January 2017.
