1 Scope

This document gives guidance on running a pig farming project set up as industrial assistance: how the operation is organised and managed, and what has to be in place for it to survive on its own terms. Pig farming is the most consequential agricultural activity in China and the most volatile: the hog cycle swings prices by a factor of two, and African swine fever showed how fast a herd can be lost.
