Scope

GB/T 9971-2017 is the English-translated version of 原料纯铁.

GB/T 9971-2017 is the Chinese national standard for pure iron supplied as raw material in the form of billets, hot-rolled bars and hot-rolled rod.

It fixes the grade designations and varieties, the classification, dimensions, shape and weight, the technical requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules and the packaging, marking and quality certificate.

The grades are YT1, YT2, YT3 and the newly added YT4, with adjusted limits for manganese, sulfur, copper and aluminium and new requirements for oxygen and titanium; the smelting method is also prescribed.

Composition is checked with the GB/T 223 series of chemical analysis methods. The material serves electrical and precision alloys, low-carbon and ultra-low-carbon stainless steel and powder metallurgy.

It replaces GB/T 9971-2004, was issued on 29 December 2017 and has applied since 1 September 2018.

Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This standard replaces GB/T 9971-2004 "raw iron." This standard compared with GB/T 9971-2004, the main technical changes are as follows.

--- Remove the initial billet varieties and related requirements, the original standard of flat bar and flat steel bar;

--- New product brand YT4. Adjust YT1, YT2, YT3 chemical composition of manganese, sulfur, copper and the upper limit of control element YT1 aluminum Control cap, an increase of various grades of oxygen, titanium content requirements;

--- Increase product smelting method requirements;

--- Canceled the original standard appendix A and Appendix B, carbon and sulfur detection methods directly referenced to the relevant national standards;

--- Refined the surface quality requirements.

1 Scope

This standard specifies the symbols and varieties of raw materials, classification, size, shape and weight, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packages Equipment, signs and quality certificates.

This standard applies to electric alloys, precision alloys (including soft magnetic materials, hard magnetic materials, flexible alloys, expanded alloys, etc.), low carbon stainless steel, Ultra-low carbon stainless steel and powder metallurgy and other raw materials for the use of pure iron billets, hot-rolled steel rods and hot-rolled rod.
