GB/T 8089-2007 is the English-translated version of 天然生胶 烟胶片、白绉胶片和浅色绉胶片.

GB/T 8089-2007 fixes the terms and definitions, the requirements, the test methods, the inspection rules and the packaging, marking, storage and transport of raw natural rubber in the form of smoked sheets, white crepes and pale crepes.

Clause 1 applies it to sheet made from natural rubber latex coagulated with acid, pressed and smoke dried, and to white and pale crepes made from fresh latex coagulum through a controlled production process, with a crepe surface and a thickness about the same as that of the physical standard sample; it does not apply to sheet made wholly or partly from skim rubber.

Clause 3 refers the terms and definitions to Appendix A, and clause 4 carries the requirements, opening with appearance.

For smoked sheet the film must be dry, clean, tough and strong and free of resinous matter (rubber rust), blisters, grit, dirt and any other foreign matter, with only the slight scattered specks and pinhead bubbles shown by the physical standard sample allowed; a bale must be free of mould inside, very slight mould traces being tolerated only on the dry foreskin and at the junction between foreskin and bale surface without penetrating inside, the colour index must not exceed 6.0, and oxidation spots and streaks, rejected cut rubber blocks, skim foam rubber, weak, hot, over-smoked, cooked and reverted rubber, patternless opaque film and burnt film are all excluded.

The normative references name GB/T 528 for tensile stress-strain properties, GB/T 3510 for the plasticity of unvulcanised rubber, GB/T 3517 for the plasticity retention index, GB/T 4498 for ash, GB/T 8086 for impurity content, GB/T 8088 for nitrogen content, GB/T 14796 for the colour index, GB/T 15340 for sampling and sample preparation, and ISO 248:2005 for volatile matter.

The changes listed against the previous editions cover the new normative references clause and the new terms and definitions clause, which took in the appendices of the two earlier standards, the added requirements and test methods for the internal quality of the bale, an extra substandard grade of smoked sheet, cut-package sampling and test methods, colour figures for secondary smoked sheet and for white and pale crepes with their test methods, requirements for the packaging materials, and a tolerance on the coating solids per bale; Appendices A, B and C are normative.

The standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association and is administered by SAC/TC35/SC8, with drafting by the agro-products processing institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences and participation by entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureaus and tyre companies.

It replaces GB/T 8089-1987 and GB/T 8090-1987, was issued on 2007-08-31 and has applied since 2007-12-01.
