This standard is a vocabulary document for non-metallic mineral products, and Part 5 is devoted to attapulgite, a clay mineral used in industries such as drilling fluids, adsorbents, fillers and agriculture. It defines the terms used when describing the mineral and its products so that producers, buyers and technical staff use language consistently.

The users of the document include mining and mineral processing companies, product developers, laboratories, researchers, trading companies, and technical translators who need to render Chinese mineral terminology accurately into other languages. A shared vocabulary also supports clearer product specifications and contracts.

The document was issued on 28 August 2026 and takes effect on 1 March 2027. It forms one part of a multi-part series on non-metallic mineral product vocabulary and is a recommended national standard (GB/T), which means it is voluntary unless referenced in a contract or another binding document.
