GB/T 5463.2-2025 is the English-translated version of 非金属矿产品词汇 第2部分:滑石.

GB/T 5463.2-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the terms used when talc is bought and sold — the mineral and its varieties including iron talc and nickel talc, the talc content, the properties a buyer pays for such as whiteness, moisture, loss on ignition, acid insoluble matter, bulk density and oil absorption, the asbestos minerals that decide whether a grade may be used at all, and the product terms from technical raw talc to talc masterbatch. Part 2 of the series. It replaces GB/T 5463.2-2013, under the China Building Materials Federation. In force from 1 January 2026. Issued on 30 June 2025, it has been in force since 1 January 2026, replacing GB/T 5463.2-2013.

Foreword

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1: Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting.

This document is Part 2 of GB/T 5463 Vocabulary of Non-metallic Mineral Products. GB/T 5463 has been published in the following parts.

— Part 1: General terms and definitions;

— Part 2: Talc;

— Part 3: Gypsum.

This document replaces GB/T 5463.2-2013 "Non-metallic mineral products vocabulary part 2.Talc" and is consistent with GB/T 5463.2-2013.

In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.

a) The "Scope" has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2013 edition);

b) The definition of the term "talc" has been changed (see 3.1, 2.1 of the 2013 edition);

c) Added the terms and definitions of “iron talc” and “nickel talc” (see 3.4, 3.5);

d) Added the term and definition of "talc content" (see 3.23);

e) Added the terms and definitions of “whiteness”, “moisture” and “loss on ignition” (see 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3);

f) The definition of the term “(hydrochloric) acid insoluble matter” has been changed (see 4.8, 3.5 of the 2013 edition);

g) The definition of the term "asbestos mineral" has been changed (see 4.13, 3.10 of the 2013 edition);

h) Added the terms and definitions of “bulk density”, “apparent density” and “oil absorption” (see 4.18, 4.19 and 4.20);

i) Added the term and definition of "organic matter" (see 4.21);

j) Changed the definition of the term "technical raw material talc" (see 5.1, 4.1 of the 2013 edition);

k) Added the term and definition of “talc masterbatch” (see 5.8);

l) The terms and definitions of “ground talc”, “microfine talc” and “ultrafine talc” have been deleted (see 4.8, 4.9, 4.10);

m) The terminology and definition of “talc for pharmaceutical and food use” have been changed (see 5.23, 5.24, and 4.25 of the 2013 edition);

n) Added the terms and definitions of “talc for wood coatings” and “talc for general use” (see 5.25 and 5.26).

Introduction

It plays a role in strategic emerging industries and high-tech industries such as construction, marine engineering, new energy, new materials, biomedicine, and environmental protection and governance.

It plays an irreplaceable and important role in the new round of scientific and technological revolution and the development of emerging industries.

GB/T 5463 "Non-metallic Mineral Products Vocabulary" aims to standardize the general terms of non-metallic mineral products.

The terms and definitions for various minerals are intended to be composed of several parts.

— Part 1: General terms and definitions. The purpose is to define the general terms of non-metallic mineral products, as well as the physical and chemical properties, processing Terms and definitions related to the processing and common use of non-metallic minerals and their products.

— Part 2: Talc. The purpose is to define the main terms and definitions of talc ore, talc composition and properties, and talc products.

— Part 3: Gypsum. The purpose is to define the main terms and definitions of gypsum ore, gypsum composition and properties, and gypsum products.

— Part 4: Graphite. The purpose is to define the main terms and definitions of graphite ores, graphite composition and properties, and graphite products.

— Part 5: Attapulgite. The purpose is to define the attapulgite ore, attapulgite composition and properties, and the main Terms and definitions.

Since the release of GB/T 5463.2-2013, China's talc industry has flourished, with new products, new processes and new equipment constantly emerging.

The terms and concepts of products have also kept pace with the times, and have been continuously growing and updating. The content of the standard is obviously not suitable for the green development and high-quality development of the talc industry.

The current situation is mainly manifested in the following aspects. first, the content of the standard has lagged behind the actual development of the industry; second, the current standard cannot fully cover the physical and chemical properties of talc products.

In view of this, it is necessary to revise and improve GB/T 5463.2 to further standardize the terms and definitions involved in the field of talc and adapt to the requirements of talc.

To meet the requirements of the development of stone products and finished products technology, meet the needs of new varieties and new technologies, promote exchanges and sharing among various departments and fields, and thus Promote green, safe and high-quality development of the talc industry.

1 Scope

This document defines the main terms and definitions of talc ore, talc composition and properties, and talc products.

This document is applicable to the fields of geological exploration of natural talc mines, talc mine product processing, inspection, trade, scientific research and teaching.

3 Talc Terms and Definitions

3.1 talc
