Scope

GB/T 5195.11-2021 is the English-translated version of 萤石 锰含量的测定 高碘酸盐分光光度法和火焰原子吸收光谱法.

GB/T 5195.11-2021 gives two methods for determining the manganese content of fluorspar, over a range of 0.006 % to 0.40 % by mass.

In Method 1 the sample is decomposed with hydrochloric, nitric and hydrofluoric acids in a PTFE beaker, fumed with perchloric acid to drive off fluorine and silicon, and the manganese is oxidized with periodate in a phosphoric acid medium so that its absorbance can be measured.

Method 2 uses flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The standard also sets out the reagents, the procedure and a flow chart for accepting the analytical values of a test sample.

It is part 11 of the GB/T 5195 series for fluorspar. It replaces GB/T 5195.11-2006, was issued on 20 August 2021 and has applied since 1 March 2022.

3 Terms and definitions

There are no terms and definitions that need to be defined in this document.

4 Periodate spectrophotometry (Method 1)

4.1 Principle

The sample is decomposed in a polytetrafluoroethylene beaker with hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, and hydrofluoric acid. Perchloric acid smokes to drive out fluorine and silicon. In a phosphoric acid medium, The manganese was oxidized to seven valence with periodate, and its absorbance was measured.

4.2 Reagents

Unless otherwise stated, only reagents confirmed to be analytically pure are used in the analysis.
