GB/T 5195.4-2025 is the English-translated version of 萤石化学分析方法 第4部分:总硫、硫化物含量的测定.

GB/T 5195.4-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering sulfur in fluorspar by two methods — total sulfur burnt off in a tube furnace at 1200 °C with tungsten trioxide as flux, the sulfur dioxide absorbed in potassium iodide-starch and titrated with potassium iodate, and sulfide alone by iodometric titration, with the reagents, the sampling, the calculation and the precision, and the exclusion of samples carrying polysulfides, which the sulfide method cannot handle. Part 4 of the series. It replaces GB/T 5195.4-2006, under the China Iron and Steel Association. In force from 1 March 2026. Issued on 29 August 2025, it has been in force since 1 March 2026, replacing GB/T 5195.4-2006.

This document replaces GB/T 5195.4-2006 "Determination of Sulfide Content in Fluorite - Iodometric Method" and GB/T 5195.5-2017 "Fluorite".

"Determination of Total Sulfur Content in Limestone by Tubular Furnace Combustion-Potassium Iodate Titration Method", consistent with GB/T 5195.4-2006 and GB/T 5195.5-2017 Aside from structural adjustments and editorial modifications, the main technical changes are as follows.

a) The scope of application of the standard has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of GB/T 5195.4-2006, and Chapter 1 of GB/T 5195.5-2017). Chapter 1);

b) Added terms and definitions (see Chapter 3);

c) The calibration of the titer of potassium iodate standard titration solution for similar standard samples/standard substances has been removed (see GB/T 5195.5-2017). (4.7 and 8.1.2)

d) Change "weigh 12.5g of sodium thiosulfate" in Method 2 to "weigh 12.5g of sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate (Na2S2O3-5H2O)".

e) The determination and representation of results in Method 2 have been added, and the process for determining the analysis results and the rules for rounding off values are given (see 5.8);

f) The content of the test report has been changed (see Chapter 6, Chapter 10 of GB/T 5195.4-2006, and Chapter 10 of GB/T 5195.5-2017). (10 chapters).

1 Scope

This document describes the determination of total sulfur content using a tube furnace combustion-potassium iodate titration method and the determination of sulfide content using iodometric titration.

This document applies to the determination of total sulfur and sulfide content in fluorite. Method 1.Total sulfur determination range (mass fraction). 0.010% ~ 1.000%; Method 2 determination range (mass fraction). w>=0.001% (sulfides are calculated as sulfur). 4 Method 1.Determination of total sulfur content by tubular furnace combustion-potassium iodate titration

4.1 Principle

The sample was mixed with tungsten trioxide and heated in a nitrogen stream at 1200°C±25°C to convert sulfur in the sample into sulfur dioxide, which was then converted into sulfur dioxide by acid.

Sulfur dioxide was absorbed by a potassium iodide-starch solution and titrated with a standard potassium iodate solution.

4.2 Reagents and Materials

Unless otherwise specified, only approved analytical grade reagents and distilled water of grade III or higher conforming to GB/T 6682 shall be used in the analysis.

It is water of comparable purity.

4.2.1 Flux, tungsten trioxide (sulfur content less than 0.001%), powder.

4.2.2 Carbon dioxide absorbent, particle size range. 0.5mm~2mm.

4.2.3 Anhydrous magnesium perchlorate, particle size range. 0.5mm~2mm.
