GB/T 46291-2025 is the English-translated version of 煤岩分析方法一般规定.

GB/T 46291-2025 is the Chinese national standard that lays down the general rules for coal petrographic analysis.

It specifies the classification and naming used in coal and rock analysis, the collection and preparation of samples, the analysis and testing, the way results are expressed, the precision of the methods, and the testing records and test reports.

The classification of bituminous coal follows GB/T 18023 for macroscopic types and GB/T 15588 and GB/T 15589 for microscopic components and types, with GB/T 46288 and GB/T 46289 doing the same for lignite, and the terms come from GB/T 12937.

It applies to the various coal petrographic analysis test methods, standards and documents. It was issued on 5 October 2025 and has applied since 1 May 2026.
