1 Scope

This document specifies the basic rules, data sources, feature selection, feature representation, verification methods, etc. for the compilation of thematic geographic base maps.

This document is applicable to the design and compilation of thematic map geographic base maps.

3 Terms and definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 16820-2009 and the following apply to this document.

3.1 seriesthematicmaps

A set of maps with a unified design and compilation that focuses on representing a certain theme in natural or social phenomena.

A set of geographic basemaps used for the compilation of a series of thematic maps.

4 Basic Provisions

4.1 Geographic basemap types

Based on the differences in the content and expression requirements of various thematic maps, geographic base maps are classified. Commonly used geographic base map types are shown in Table 1.
