GB/T 44921-2024 is the Chinese national standard covering radiography of castings onto a storage phosphor imaging plate read by a scanner rather than onto film — the ordering information, the technique levels, the general requirements and the exposure technique for X-ray and gamma sources, the image assessment, the records and reports, and the normalized signal-to-noise ratio, minimum image quality value, minimum grey value and basic spatial resolution that decide whether an image can be judged at all. It covers cast steel and cast iron and the copper, nickel, magnesium, aluminium and titanium alloys, with a separate rule for how many exposures an annular casting needs. First edition. In force from 1 June 2025. Issued on 28 November 2024, it has been in force since 1 June 2025.

1 Scope
This document specifies the classification, quality and inspection of castings using industrial computerized X-ray and gamma radiography techniques using stored phosphor imaging plates (IP).
General requirements, testing techniques, image assessment, test records and reports.
This document is applicable to cast steel, cast iron, copper and copper alloys, nickel and nickel alloys, magnesium and magnesium alloys, aluminum and aluminum alloys, titanium and titanium alloys, etc.
Industrial computer radiography inspection of castings, and other castings are used for reference.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 12604.2 and the following apply to this document.
3.1 A system that converts information into digital images
It consists of a storage phosphor imaging plate (IP), a corresponding information readout unit (scanner or reader) and system software.
