Scope
GB/T 44270-2024 is the English-translated version of 中文域名注册技术要求.
GB/T 44270-2024 sets the technical requirements for registering Chinese domain names. Registration is where the hardest of the internationalised domain name problems has to be solved: because simplified and traditional Chinese forms of the same word are equivalent to a user but distinct as strings, a registry that treats them as separate names hands the same brand to two registrants, and one that bundles them has to define exactly which variants are bundled and how they are activated. The standard covers the transformation and normalisation of a Chinese domain name, then the registration requirements: the permitted character repertoire, the variant table and the bundling and reservation rules derived from it, the validation performed at registration, the encoding to the ACE form, the registry and registrar responsibilities, the registration data and its exchange, the renewal, transfer and deletion lifecycle, and the requirements on the systems that implement all of it. It took effect on 23 August 2024.
