GB/T 44098-2024 is the English-translated version of 游泳课程学生运动能力测评规范.

GB/T 44098-2024 sets the method for assessing the athletic ability of students taking a swimming course. It belongs to the Chinese series that grades each school sport on a common six-level ladder, and swimming is the one where the grading carries a consequence beyond the classroom: drowning is a leading cause of accidental death among Chinese children, several provinces have made swimming a compulsory part of schooling, and the levels have to certify competence in water rather than merely progress through a syllabus. The standard sets the classification of the assessment and the attainment requirements for each level, then the conduct of the assessment and the criteria applied at each of levels 1 to 6, from water confidence and basic propulsion through to distance, technique and self-rescue. 1 Scope

GB/T 44098-2024 sets the method for assessing the athletic ability of students taking a swimming course. It belongs to the Chinese series that grades each school sport on a common six-level ladder, and swimming is the one where the grading carries a consequence beyond the classroom: drowning is a leading cause of accidental death among Chinese children, several provinces have made swimming a compulsory part of schooling, and the levels have to certify competence in water rather than merely progress through a syllabus. 3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 The comprehensive performance developed by students in swimming courses, training and competitions, which enables them to apply skills such as swimming and rescuing to complete specific tasks.

3.2 Float pronefloat A technique in which a person lies prone on the water surface and uses the buoyancy of the water to keep the body afloat.

3.3 breaststroke The human body lies prone in the water, with the arms straight, parallel to the water surface, and symmetrically performs outward, inward, and forward strokes, while the legs symmetrically perform retracting, turning, kicking, and clamping movements. A swimming style in which the head is raised forward to breathe.

3.4 treadwater The body stands upright in the water, with the legs pushing downward and the arms bent in front of the chest making outward and inward strokes of the water, allowing the body to float in the water.

3.5 crawlstroke A swimming posture in which the human body lies prone in the water, with the arms paddling and the legs kicking alternately.

3.6 underwater swimming A swimming posture in which the human body swims underwater without breathing.

3.7 inverted breaststroke The human body lies on its back on the water, with the legs symmetrically turning over and kicking, and the arms straightened through the air into the water in front of the shoulders, paddling backward along the sides of the body. Swimming style.
