1 Scope

GB/T 42771-2023 specifies the assistive products a Chinese child welfare institution must provide. The children in these institutions are overwhelmingly disabled - that is now the main route into them - and the equipment they need is individual: a wheelchair or a seating system fitted to one child is unusable by another, and a growing child outgrows it within a year or two. Institutions have historically been equipped by donation rather than by assessment. The standard sets the general provisions, the basic and recommended configuration of personal assistive devices, the configuration of assistive devices in the shared areas with their catalogue, and the management, covering the organisation and the quality inspection of what is provided, with an informative annex listing the assistive devices for the public areas. It took effect on 1 December 2023.
