Scope
GB/T 42417-2023 is the English-translated version of 海湾水交换能力评价技术规程.
GB/T 42417-2023 is the Chinese national code of practice for assessing how well the water in a sea bay is exchanged.
It lays down the general principles and then two assessment routes: a monitoring and evaluation method, with the choice of a method for calculating the average tidal volume, the preparation of basic data, the calculation of average tidal volume and average water exchange rate, and the rating of exchange capacity; and a simulation method, with hydrodynamic numerical simulation and its verification, convection-diffusion simulation of a conservative tracer, the average half-exchange time of the water body and the water exchange matrix.
It applies to bays, and other sea areas may use it for reference. Among the standards it quotes are GB/T 12763.1-2007 and GB 17378.2-2007. Issued on 23 May 2023, it has applied since 1 September 2023.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules for Standardization Documents" drafting.
1 Scope
This document establishes the general principles for the evaluation of bay water exchange capacity, and specifies the basic procedures for monitoring and evaluation methods and simulation evaluation methods, Operating instructions, and methods for evaluating bay water exchange capacity.
This document is applicable to the evaluation of the water exchange capacity of bays, and can be referred to for the evaluation of water exchange capacity in other sea areas.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Bay seabay
The area of the water area is not less than the area of a semicircle whose diameter is the width of the mouth and is surrounded by land. [Source: GB/T 18190-2017, 2.1.26, modified]
3.2 Assessment sea area
The bay or part of the sea within the bay to be assessed.
3.3 Spring tide
One to three days after the first and fifteenth day of each month, the tide with a large tidal range is formed by the addition of the tides caused by the moon and the sun. [Source: GB/T 15920-2010, 2.5.12, modified]
3.4 Neaptide
The tide with small tidal range is formed by the subtraction of the tides caused by the moon and the sun around the seventh or eighth day or the 22nd or 3rd day of each month. [Source: GB/T 15920-2010, 2.5.13, modified]
3.5 Intertidal zone
Between the high tide line and the low tide line, the seawater periodically submerges and withdraws from the shoal area. [Source: GB/T 18190-2017, 2.1.11]
