Scope

GB/T 42326-2023 is the English-translated version of 内河航道代码.

GB/T 42326-2023 is the Chinese national code list for inland waterways.

It fixes the coding rules, the coding method and the codes themselves, and its twenty-nine code tables run from inter-provincial waterways through Tianjin, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and the other provinces to Xinjiang.

The first coding rule allows a waterway one start point, one end point and one name, so a main stream and its tributaries are named and coded as separate waterways; the worked example is the Tangbai, Tang and Bai rivers.

Clause 1 states that it applies to the design and development of inland waterway statistics and management information systems and to the exchange and sharing of inland waterway data. It quotes GB/T 2260. Issued on 17 March 2023, it has applied since 1 July 2023.

Note: Inland waterways include national and international rivers and waterways.

Example: Tangbai River is a tributary of Hanjiang River, and Tanghe and Baihe are tributaries of Tangbai River respectively. Therefore, Tangbai River, Tanghe and Baihe are three waterways, and they are named Tangbai River respectively.
