Scope

GB/T 42059-2022 is the English-translated version of 水下滑翔器系统试验方法.

GB/T 42059-2022 is the Chinese national method for testing an underwater glider as a complete system.

It runs through three campaigns: the external pressure safety test, with the whole-machine pressure test and the system pressure alternating test; the pool or lake test, covering underwater static equilibrium, underwater centre height, surface communication attitude and function, and glide performance; and the sea trial, covering working depth assessment, range and operational application.

For each it gives the test content, the site and facility requirements, the method and steps and how the results are assessed, and it defines the gliding cycle, gliding distance, gliding velocity and residual buoyancy.

It applies to tests organised during the development and delivery of underwater gliders, and is a reference for other buoyancy-driven unmanned underwater vehicles. Issued on 12 October 2022, it has applied since the same date.

3 Terms and Definitions

The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 13407 and the following apply to this document.

3.1 Underwater glider

Under the action of residual buoyancy and hydrodynamic force, unmanned aerial vehicle that glides underwater.

Note: Also known as underwater glider.

3.2 System test

A test conducted to verify the performance and function of the complete machine system.

3.3 Gliding cycle

The number of dives in the underwater jagged continuous gliding motion of the underwater glider.

3.4 Gliding distance

The horizontal distance traveled by the underwater glider during the set period.

Note: The ratio of the gliding distance of a single snorkeling to the snorkeling depth difference is called the dimensionless gliding distance.

3.5 Gliding velocity

The gliding distance of the underwater glider per unit time.

3.6 Residual buoyancy net buoyancy

The difference between the underwater glider's buoyancy and gravity.
