Scope

GB/T 40978-2021 is the English-translated version of 电饭锅.

GB/T 40978-2021 is the Chinese national product standard for household electric rice cookers. It defines the rice cooker, the electromagnetic heating rice cooker and the small armor plate used in testing, and covers classification and model naming, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transport and storage.

Its annexes give the model designation of appliances, an energy efficiency test method, a cooking performance test method and specific provisions for electromagnetic heating rice cookers, pressure rice cookers and cookers with a ceramic cooking container.

It applies to household and similar electric rice cookers with a rated voltage not above 250 V, and does not deal with the safety of food contact materials. Manufacturers and test laboratories use it, and some of its terms are taken from GB 4706.1 and GB 4706.19. It was issued on 26 November 2021 and has applied since 1 June 2022.

1 Scope

This document specifies the classification and model naming, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, markings, packaging, transportation, and storage of electric rice cookers.

This document applies to household and similar electric rice cookers whose rated voltage does not exceed 250V.

This document does not involve safety requirements related to food contact materials.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions defined in GB 4706.1 and GB 4706.19 apply to this document.

3.1 Electric rice cooker

An appliance for cooking rice with a detachable container (placed inside the appliance during cooking).

Note 1: The rice cooker can have a heat preservation function.

Note 2: The rice cooker can cook other foods except rice.

3.2 Electromagnetic heating rice cooker

Electric rice cooker that heats the container by eddy current.

Note: The eddy current is induced on the container or lid by the electromagnetic field of the coil, or the eddy current is induced on the container and lid.

3.3 Small armor plate

Q235A (A3) steel plate with a thickness of 2.0mm and a diameter of 60mm.
