Scope
GB/T 40308-2021 is the English-translated version of 气象仪器型号与命名方法.
GB/T 40308-2021 sets out how meteorological instruments are named and how their model designations are formed.
An instrument name is built from three kinds of element: an optional guidance element for the technical field and main characteristics, main elements for the category and group of the instrument, and supplementary elements for differences in performance and complexity.
The model designation combines a category code, group code, column code, type code, separator, modification code and supplementary code, with the codes listed in a normative annex and worked examples of models in an informative one.
The standard distinguishes single-element measuring instruments from comprehensive instruments with several functions, and it uses the terminology of GB/T 37467. It was issued on 20 August 2021 and has applied since 1 March 2022.
