Scope

GB/T 40184-2021 is the English-translated version of 畜禽基因组选择育种技术规程.

GB/T 40184-2021 is the Chinese national technical code for breeding livestock and poultry by genomic selection. It applies to pigs, cattle, goats, sheep and chickens, and other animal breeding programmes can use it as a reference.

Genomic selection is defined as the use of genetic markers that cover the whole genome to estimate or predict the breeding value of individual animals, so that they can be genetically evaluated and selected.

The normative references show what the practice relies on: performance recording for pigs, dairy and beef cattle, sheep, broilers and layers, carcass and meat quality measurement, body type assessment, wool testing, sample collection and genetic evaluation of breeding sheep.

Breeding companies and genetic evaluation centres are its users. It was issued on 21 May 2021 and has applied since 1 December 2021.

This standard was proposed and managed by the China National Institute of Standardization.

1 Scope

This standard specifies the requirements for the selection and breeding of livestock and poultry genomes.

This standard applies to the selection and breeding of pigs, cattle, goats, sheep and chicken genomes. Other animal breeding can be used as a reference.
