GB/T 40006.8-2021 is the English-translated version of 塑料 再生塑料 第8部分:聚酰胺(PA)材料.
Part 8 of China's national standard series for recycled plastics, covering polyamide. It specifies the classification and naming, the requirements, the test methods and the traceability. Nylon is the engineering plastic of under-bonnet automotive parts, electrical connectors, gears, and the fibre of carpets and fishing nets, and it is worth recycling because virgin polyamide is expensive and its production is energy-intensive. It shares polycarbonate's sensitivity to moisture at melt temperature and adds one of its own: most engineering polyamide is glass-filled, and every reprocessing pass breaks the fibres shorter, so the mechanical properties fall with each cycle in a way the polymer alone would not explain. That is why traceability appears in this part where it does not in the others - a recycled polyamide's usable properties depend on how many times it has been through a machine and on what filler it carries, and neither is visible in a bag of granules.
