GB/T 37342-2024 is the English-translated version of 国家森林城市评价指标.
GB/T 37342-2024 sets the indicators for the National Forest City designation in China. The title is awarded by the forestry administration to cities that meet a defined standard of urban forest cover and management, and it carries real weight in local government performance, which makes the indicator definitions consequential and contested. The standard sets the indicator system and, for each indicator, its definition, its threshold and how it is verified, covering the forest and tree canopy coverage of the built area and of the municipality, the per capita park green space and the accessibility of green space to residents, the greening of streets, waterfronts, campuses and residential areas, the native species proportion and the biodiversity of the plantings, the ecological restoration and the protection of existing woodland and wetland, the urban forest health and pest management, the public access, education and participation, and the planning, funding and management arrangements that must be in place. It took effect on 29 September 2024.

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part
1.Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting is required. This document replaces GB/T 37342-2019 "National Forest City Evaluation Index". 1 Scope
GB/T 37342-2024 sets the indicators for the National Forest City designation in China. The title is awarded by the forestry administration to cities that meet a defined standard of urban forest cover and management, and it carries real weight in local government performance, which makes the indicator definitions consequential and contested. The standard sets the indicator system and, for each indicator, its definition, its threshold and how it is verified, covering the forest and tree canopy coverage of the built area and of the municipality, the per capita park green space and the accessibility of green space to residents, the greening of streets, waterfronts, campuses and residential areas, the native species proportion and the biodiversity of the plantings, the ecological restoration and the protection of existing woodland and wetland, the urban forest health and pest management, the public access, education and participation, and the planning, funding and management arrangements that must be in place. This document stipulates the contents of the indicator system for prefecture-level cities and above and county-level cities in national forest cities. This document applies to the evaluation of national forest cities.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 National Forest City A city with an ecosystem with forests and trees as the main body, and mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasses and sands coexisting in harmony, is formed within the municipal area.
3.2 City field The entire area under the jurisdiction of a city.
3.3 urban area The built-up area of a city.
3.4 plain city Cities in which mountainous area accounts for less than 2/3 of the urban area.
3.5 mountain citymountain city Cities where mountainous area accounts for 2/3 or more of the urban area.
3.6 Native tree species Tree species that are naturally distributed in the area and naturalized tree species that are not ecologically invasive.
3.7 Greenway Relying on natural elements and forming the basis, it connects urban and rural recreation and leisure green spaces to meet the needs of pedestrians and cyclists to enter the natural landscape slow-moving road system.
