Scope
GB/T 37246-2018 is the English-translated version of 精细陶瓷抗热震性能试验方法.
GB/T 37246-2018 sets out how to measure the thermal shock resistance of fine ceramics from the loss of bending strength after rapid cooling.
Specimens are brought to a test temperature and quenched in water, and the residual bending strength is compared with the strength before the test to give the bending strength decay rate at a given thermal shock temperature difference.
The standard covers the terms, principle, instruments, specimens, test procedure, calculation of thermal shock resistance and the test report. Its notes explain the choice of the rapid cooling method, which produces the highest tensile stress at the ceramic surface and is therefore the most demanding condition, and of water as the cooling medium.
It is used to evaluate and design fine ceramic materials. It was issued on 28 December 2018 and has applied since 1 September 2019.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, principles, instruments, and tests for characterizing the thermal shock resistance of fine ceramics by bending strength attenuation. Samples, test procedures, thermal shock resistance calculations and test reports.
This standard applies to the performance evaluation and design of fine ceramic materials.
Note 1. There are 3 commonly used thermal shock test methods, namely rapid cooling method, rapid heating method and rapid heating and cooling method. Ceramics are sensitive to tensile stress and surface defects are A source of crack propagation will result in a decrease in strength. The rapid cooling method produces the maximum tensile stress on the ceramic surface, which is the most demanding test condition for ceramics. because Therefore, this standard uses the rapid cooling method.
Note 2. In many thermal shock test methods, liquid or gas is required as the cooling medium, and the liquid has better cooling effect than the gas. Therefore, this standard uses water. For cooling media.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions as defined in GB/T 17991 apply to this document.
3.1 Thermal shock
The phenomenon of thermal stress generated by the material during rapid temperature change.
3.2 Thermal shock temperature difference
The temperature difference between the test temperature and the cooling medium during the thermal shock test.
3.3 Residual bending strength
The bending strength of the material after the thermal shock test.
3.4 Bending strength decay rate
The ratio of the attenuation of the bending strength after the thermal shock test to the bending strength before the test.
The bending strength decay rate sigma* is calculated by the formula (1).
