GB/T 37206-2018 is the English-translated version of 有机分离膜抗菌性能测试方法.
GB/T 37206-2018 is the Chinese national method for testing the antibacterial properties of organic separation membranes used in water treatment. It applies to organic flat-sheet membranes and hollow fibre membranes, and other types of organic separation membrane may be tested by reference to it.
The standard defines the terms it relies on, including antibacterial, organic membrane, flat membrane, hollow fibre membrane and colony forming unit (CFU), taking most of them from GB/T 31402-2015 and GB/T 20103-2006.
Its normative references include GB/T 6682 for laboratory water, GB/T 26813 for the double-beam UV-visible spectrophotometer and YY 0569-2011 for the Class II biological safety cabinet used in the work.
Membrane manufacturers and testing laboratories use it to assess how well a membrane surface inhibits bacterial growth. It was issued on 28 December 2018 and has applied since 1 November 2019.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the test method for the antibacterial properties of organic separation membranes for water treatment.
This standard is applicable to the test of the antibacterial properties of organic flat membranes and hollow fiber membranes. Other types of organic separation membranes can be referred to.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Antibacterial
The state in which the surface of the article inhibits the growth of bacteria or the effect of the agent on inhibiting the growth of bacteria on the surface of the article. [GB/T 31402-2015, definition 3.1]
3.2 Organic membrane
A semipermeable membrane having a separating function made of an organic polymer. [GB/T 20103-2006, definition 2.1.8]
3.3 Flat membrane
The shape is a flat or paper-like film. [GB/T 20103-2006, definition 2.1.27]
3.4 Hollow fiber membrane
The shape is a fibrous, hollow film.

3.5 Colony forming unit; CFU
In the counting of viable cultures, in order to express the number of viable bacteria, a plurality of cells of a single cell or agglomerated cells are grown on a solid medium. Colonies formed by the colonies.
