Scope
GB/T 36382-2018 is the English-translated version of 废汞触媒处理处置方法.
GB/T 36382-2018 describes how waste mercury catalyst is treated and disposed of. It deals with the spent catalyst from vinyl chloride production by the calcium carbide process, which has become unusable through poisoning, deactivation or carbon deposition.
It defines terms such as the conversion rate of waste mercury catalyst, the curing rate, the direct recovery rate of mercury and mercurial soot, and describes the main components of the catalyst, activated carbon and mercury chloride.
It then sets out storage, the treatment and disposal methods and environmental protection, with reference to GB 5085.3 and GB 18597 on hazardous waste. The treatment of mercury-containing activated carbon may follow it as a reference. It was issued on 7 June 2018 and has applied since 1 January 2019.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terminology and definition of waste mercury catalyst, main components, storage, treatment and disposal methods and environmental protection.
This standard is applicable to the treatment and disposal of waste mercury catalysts produced during the production of vinyl chloride in calcium carbide process, and the mercury contained in the process.
The treatment and disposal of activated carbon can be referred to.
2 Normative references
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only dated versions apply to this document. For undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this document.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Waste mercury catalyst
In the production of calcium carbide in the production of calcium carbide, the mercury catalyst that cannot be used normally due to poisoning, inactivation or carbon deposition after a period of use.
3.2 Waste mercury catalyst conversion rate
The percentage of all mercury in the waste mercury catalyst that was converted to oxidized mercury and mercury sulphide by pretreatment.
3.3 Curing rate
The ratio of chlorine in the waste mercury catalyst that can be solidified by calcium ions to total chlorine in the waste mercury catalyst.
3.4 Direct recovery of mercury
The ratio of mercury produced in the product after effective recovery to total mercury in the waste mercury catalyst.
3.5 Mercurial soot
A loose substance composed of small mercury beads, fine dust, hydrocarbons, moisture, etc. generated during the mercury refining process.
4 Main ingredients
The waste mercury catalyst is mainly composed of activated carbon and mercury chloride (HgCl2), wherein the mercury chloride content is 1.5%~3.0%; the chlorine containing mercury activated carbon The mercury content is between 1.0% and 3.0%.
