1 Scope

China's national standard for the electrical systems of platform edge doors. It specifies the terms and definitions, the conditions of use, the system composition and technical requirements, the requirements on the parts, and the reliability, availability, maintainability and safety provisions. Platform edge doors are the glass screens that separate a metro platform from the track and open in line with the train's doors. They have become standard on new Chinese metro lines because they do several things at once: they prevent falls and intrusions onto the track, they let the platform be air conditioned separately from the tunnel, and they stop the piston effect of an arriving train blowing dust and wind through the station. The electrical system is what makes them work and what makes them dangerous if it does not: the doors must open only when a train is correctly berthed, must not close on a passenger, and must be openable manually when the power fails - which is why the safety and availability requirements sit in the same document as the technical ones.
