Scope
GB/T 36239-2018 is the English-translated version of 特种机器人 术语.
China's national vocabulary for special robots. Special robot is the Chinese category for the machines that are neither industrial robots nor domestic service robots: the ones built for firefighting, for search and rescue, for underwater work, for explosive ordnance disposal, for inspecting pipes and power lines, for agriculture and for military and police use. They have almost nothing in common mechanically - a pipeline inspection robot and a firefighting robot share no components - and what unites them is that each is built for a task people should not or cannot do. That diversity is exactly why a vocabulary comes first. The field grew from many separate engineering traditions, each with its own words, and the same capability is described differently depending on whose robot it is. A common terminology is the precondition for writing anything else about the category, and it is what lets a procurement specification for a rescue robot mean the same to the buyer and the builder.
