Scope

GB/T 36137-2018 is the English-translated version of 中空纤维超滤膜和微滤膜组件完整性检验方法.

GB/T 36137-2018 describes how to test the integrity of hollow fibre ultrafiltration and microfiltration membrane modules by bubble observation. It applies to integrity testing of both kinds of module and relies on the membrane separation terminology of GB/T 20103-2006.

The terms it defines include hollow fibre membrane, ultrafiltration membrane, microfiltration membrane with an average pore diameter of at least 0.01 µm, the hollow fibre curtain membrane module made of fibres, a water collecting pipe, a casting tank and sealing resin, and the pressurized hollow fibre membrane module in a closed casing, driven by positive pressure.

Membrane module manufacturers, water treatment operators and test laboratories use it to check whether a module is intact. It was issued on 14 May 2018 and has applied since 1 December 2018.

Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

1 Scope

This standard specifies methods for testing the integrity of hollow fiber ultrafiltration membranes and microfiltration membrane modules by bubble observation.

This standard applies to the integrity test of hollow fiber ultrafiltration membrane and microfiltration membrane components.

2 Normative references

The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only dated versions apply to this document. For undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this document.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions defined in GB/T 20103-2006 apply to this document. For ease of use, the following is repeated Certain terms and definitions in GB/T 20103-2006.

3.1 Hollow fiber membrane

The outer shape is a fibrous, hollow self-supporting membrane.

Note: For reverse osmosis membranes, the cortex is on the outer surface; for ultrafiltration membranes and microfiltration membranes, the cortex is on the inner surface, outer surface or inner and outer surfaces. [GB/T 20103-2006, definition 2.1.28]

3.2 Ultrafiltration membrane

It consists of a very thin epidermal layer that acts as a separation and a thicker supporting sponge or finger-like porous layer. Hundreds to millions of membranes.

Note 1. The thickness of the skin layer is usually only 0.1 µm to 1 µm, and the thickness of the porous layer is usually 125 µm.

Note 2. Most ultrafiltration membranes are asymmetric membranes. [GB/T 20103-2006, definition 5.1.1]

3.3 Microfiltration membrane

A separation membrane having a membrane average pore diameter greater than or equal to 0.01 µm. [GB/T 20103-2006, definition 5.1.2]

3.4 Hollow fiber curtain membrane module

A device consisting of a hollow fiber membrane, a water collecting pipe, a casting tank, and a resin for sealing at the end of the liquid to be treated.

Note: Rewrite GB/T 25279-2010, definition 3.1.

3.5 Pressure type hollow fiber membrane module

A membrane module composed of a hollow fiber membrane, a closed casing, and a capping resin, which is driven by a positive pressure to push the liquid.
